Inaccurate azimuth in EXIF data for pictures made through Avenza Maps.

When I make photos diretly with my iPhone camera, the azimuth in the picture's EXIF data is accurate to within a few degrees. When I make photos attached to a placemark through Avenza Maps, the azimuth can be off by tens of degrees. Has anybody noticed this? If so, are you aware of a workaround? (I am using Avenza Maps 5.3. I confirmed the observations on azimuth by using a jig that aligns my iPhone with the cardinal directions.)
