When would I find myself "tracking on a different map than the one you are currently viewing"?
Hi, the help doc Record GPS Tracks Tool for "Stopping a Track" says "If you find yourself tracking on a different map than the one you are currently viewing, you will be able to stop tracking on the previous map..."
1. When would I find myself tracking on a different map?
Would it be when I have a collection of maps, and as I'm tracking, I go off the edge of one map and onto another one in the collection?
2. Why would I not want to continue tracking?
If I don't stop tracking, I would have one track that goes across maps. If I stop tracking, and start a new one, I would have different tracks for each map. Not sure which is better. Also wondering how I would know when I'm going off the edge of a map unless I'm watching the screen at that time.

Hi there,
Often times, users will have multiple maps downloaded within the Avenza Maps app, and may use/refer to more than one at a time. If the maps are not placed within a collection, the app will treat them as individual maps.
If a user happened to be tracking on one map, then opened another map to view, the tracking would still remain active on the original map. If the user then wanted to begin tracking on the second map, they could stop the tracking occurring on the original map by swiping up on the banner located above the coordinate display on the map view. By stopping the track on the original map and beginning a new track on the second map, these will be created as two separate map features.
If you would like to record a GPS track across multiple maps, you will want to place the maps in a collection. This is similar to a folder, except it allows you to move from one map to another without leaving the map view. This means, when you are recording a track, it will switch maps as your location shifts map extents. The track created in the collection can be apart of a layer that is linked to all the maps present in the collection, meaning one map feature can exist across multiple maps.
As for knowing when you are moving from one map to another (while in a collection), unfortunately, having the map viewer open on your screen would be the best way to keep track of the map extent you're currently located within. Users could also create a geofence to be notified when they are navigating outside of a map extent, however, creating a perimeter around a map extent is a feature only available to our Pro subscribers. For more guidance on geofences, please see the following link: https://support.avenzamaps.com/hc/en-us/articles/4961440148884-Monitor-Geofences.

Gabriel Thanks for the explanation, that helps clarify my understanding. Until I discovered Collections a few days ago, my tracks were going off the map when I went outside that map region. Next time I hike across maps I will be tracking across maps in the collection and will see how it works.
