The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to import your own map features for use within the Avenza Maps app. We allow features to be imported from several locations on the device or through cloud storage and can be imported directly onto a map or into your layers tab. In this tutorial, we will go over how to import several map features, including tracks, placemarks with photos, and shapefiles.
Data:
Download Features
1. Download the Features_Tutorial zip file to a storage location on your device
Importing Placemarks with Photos
1. Open Toronto, ON Parks & Trails (East)
2. Tap the Map Features icon (three layers stacked at the bottom right)
3. Select Import Layers
4. Select Import “From Storage Locations”
5. Navigate to the Features_Tutorial folder and import “Mount Pleasant Placemarks”
6. View the placemark along with the tagged images on the map by tapping on the placemarks
*When importing placemarks along with photos they must always be in a zip file containing only the placemarks and photos in KMZ format
Importing Tracks
1. Tap the Layers tab
2. Tap the Import icon
3. Tap Link to Maps and Link to Toronto, ON Parks & Trails (East)
4. Tap the slider beside the Import as “Geofences” button
5. Set the radius to 0.10 for the Geofence Import Settings
6. Select Import “From Storage Locations”
7. Navigate to the Features_Tutorial folder and import “Mount Pleasant Tracks”
8. View the tracks on the map

Importing Shapefiles
1. Open Toronto, ON Parks & Trails (East)
2. Tap the Map Features icon (three layers stacked at the bottom right)
3. Select Import Map Features (the square with a downward arrow icon)
4. Select Import Layers
5. Select Import “From Storage Locations”
6. Navigate to the Features_Tutorial folder and import the “Mount Pleasant Shapefile” zip folder
7. View the shapefile on the map
